Mini gets Connected in the Countryman, doesn't exactly say how

Mini will be debuting a new system dubbed Mini Connected at the Geneva Motor Show, which the brand describes as a new, exciting innovation in infotainment. However, we have little idea of what Mini Connected actually does beyond using "a newly developed USB interface whose unique functionality allows maximum integration of the iPhone into the in-car audio and infotainment system."

We do know you can get web radio in your Mini now, and there's Mini: Mission Control in which "vehicle-related signals are used to generate constantly changing, situation-dependent messages." Other than that, Mini Connected will be launched as an option on the Countryman. We'll have to wait until Geneva to bring you the rest, but you can make the jump to glean all you can from the press release in the meantime.

Tanner Foust Moving To European Rallycross Championship for 2010

Tanner Foust has about the most solid "car guy" curriculum vitae there is. Drift king, stuntman, rally champ, X Games legend, TV star, momentary Top Gear USA host, two-time U.S. representative for the International Race of Champions and of most important/impressive, Autoblog Podcaster. Well friends, let's go ahead and add Rallycross participant to Tanner's already padded resume.

When/Where/Why? Foust will be competing in the 2010 European Rallycross Championship as the sole American representative. Tanner will be traveling to Europe for the first four races before returning to the United States and bringing the races with him. For those unfamiliar with the discipline, rallycross is similar to rally racing, only the cars are typically 50 percent more powerful (600 horsepower as opposed to 400 hp) and the quick stages consist of dirt, jumps and tarmac. Tanner will of course be driving the same 600 hp devil of a Ford Fiesta he took to a bronze medal at last year's X Games.

Says Foust, "I've been watching European-style Rally Cross for years. I love the combination of dirt, pavement, jumps and door-to-door action – it's like a real-life videogame. I'm really excited to be on the leading edge of this discipline as it grows in the U.S. It's been popular in Europe for years – the fans here are going to love it." Spy Video: 2011 BMW 5 Series Prototypes Caught Test Drive

This BMW 5 Series will be the third car in the BMW lineup that uses FlexRay for the vehicle's internal control systems. It is the electronic technology system designed and allow much faster communications among all the various car vehicle systems.

BMW's first introduced FlexRay for the new-generation X5, although only vehicle's electronic damping control system exploits the system's faster processing speed. The previous 2009 BMW 7 Series is expected to use FlexRay technology for at least a dozen systems, so the 5 Series will most likely go even further. Expect to see even more driver adjustable built into the car as well as additional integration among systems like Active Steering Control, Electronic Differential Control and the usual traction and stability control systems.

Actor Justin Mentell Dies in Car Crash

The "Boston Legal" Actor Justin Mentell, 27, died in a car accident in rural Wisconsin on Tuesday morning after his car had gone down a steep embankment near Blanchardville, Wis., and hit two trees. According to investigation, Mentell was not wearing a seat belt. Also the Iowa County Sheriff's Department said that Mentell was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 a.m.

“His mother believes that he may have fallen asleep at the wheel just prior to the accident," Iowa County Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. Daniel Carey told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

“We don’t believe that alcohol was a factor in the incident. There was no evidence of that here," Carey said. “It is possible that Mr. Mentell fell asleep at the wheel, as his mother told us that he liked to take long drives on his own and the area he crashed was pretty secluded. There was some snow lying on the surrounding areas, [but] the road conditions were clear and dry, so, they would not have been a contributing factor either."

He played the role as attorney Garrett Wells on 'Boston legal' from 2005 to 2006 and recently starred in 'G-Force' with Zach Galifianakis. The said actor was born in Texas and attended high school in Waukegan, Ill. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.F.A in Acting in May of 2005.

Charlie Sheen Mercedes Crashed after Alleged Theft

A luxury car belonging to actor Charlie Sheen has been found crashed in a Los Angeles ravine after having been reported as stolen by the troubled star, police say. Team of firefighters found the wreckage of Sheen's Mercedes early on Friday nestling about 30 metres down a hillside on Mulholland Drive. No victim or passengers were discovered in the car, authorities said.

The search was launched after a mobile phone caller told the California Highway Patrol early on Friday that a black vehicle had gone over the side of the road, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said. Sheen reported his car stolen, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh said. "It is being investigated as an auto theft," Borihanh said.

Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck told KTLA television he "had no reason to disbelieve" Sheen's report of the car being stolen. The incident comes as Sheen faces a court hearing in Aspen, Colorado on Monday in connection with a domestic violence incident in December.
